Japan’s Greatest Kadomatsu Festival(Number of Hits:874 Times)

Kadomatsu are a traditional Japanese decoration of the New Year placed in pairs in front of homes to welcome ancestral spirits or kami of the harvest. In Miyawaka City an event is held every year where these traditional Japanese decorations are bigger than life! With a goal height of 11m and a diameter of 5m, the Kadomatsu are made from Moso bamboo as well as Madake bamboo! It takes about 350 pieces of bamboo and 250 participants one month to make the Kadomatsu! In the end, 2 large kadomatsu are completed! The participants aim to combine beauty, grace and size! This festival is referred to as Japan’s Greatest Kadomatsu Festival! Held every year on the first Sunday in December until mid-January when they are burned! The Kadomatsu are set a light in order to wish for good health! Organized by the Miyawaka City Sightseeing Association
