Yame Takezaiku
八女竹細工
Functional Beauty Passed Down for Generations
Blessed with high-quality red clay and abundant bamboo, the Yame area has long been a center for bamboo craftsmanship.
Yame Takezaiku, which began about 300 years ago, evolved from techniques introduced by the Fukuoka and Takanabe domains and became a cottage industry for lower-ranking samurai of the Arima clan.
These works are distinguished by the meticulous wrapping of the rim with thin bamboo strips up to 10 meters long—without using dyes or adhesives.
Remarkably durable, they can last 50 to 60 years, prized as both functional and beautiful household items.
