Nishijima Kamado Shrine
西島竈門神社
This is one of the three Kamado shrines in Dazaifu, related to Kamodo Shrine worship.
Here, the deity Tamayorihime-no-Mikoto, known as the goddess of marriage, is enshrined. When Nishijima was split off from Mitsusawa village during the Edo period, the divine spirit from Kamado Shrine was ceremoniously split and transferred here from Mount Homan. The Romon gate (Shinmon gate) at Nishijima Kamado Shrine is one of the three Romon gates found within Ogori. A magnificent Shingaku plaque hangs at the entrance to the main shrine, and the interior is decorated with colorful Ema plaques. Cherry blossoms bloom here in the springtime, and the view from within the grounds make this a great place to relax. This is one of the Kamado shrines located within Ogori.
