Iwatoyama Tombs

岩戸山古墳

A total of 135m in length, this is the largest-class ancient imperial grave in northern Kyushu. One of the mounds is marked as the grave of Tsukushi no Kimi Iwai according to the Chikugo Fudoki, and as of present many stone images of people/horses and haniwa(clay figures) etc. have been excavated here. Many of these artifacts have been designated as cultural properties of Japan or of the prefecture.
