Fukudo Park

福童公園

This relaxing park is located just behind Relaxing park located right behind Dainakatomi Shrine, famous for its Shogun wisteria.

The park, located just behind Onakatomi Shrine, is filled with visitors when such flowers as cherry blossoms, azalea, and shogun wisteria are in bloom. The wide-open and spacious park serves as a relaxing place where children play and locals come to take walks. The nearby Onakatomi Shrine houses a 660 year old shogun wisteria tree that is designated as a prefectural natural monument. It is said that it was planted by Prince Kaneyoshi in gratitude for having been fully healed by the shrine after being injured in the Battle of Chikugo River. We also recommend taking a careful look at the magnificent Romon gate at the shrine when you visit. Built in a mixed Japanese and Chinese style, it is designated as a tangible cultural property by the city.
