Narazu Lion dance

南良津獅子舞

This traditional dance is known as the Lion Dance and is held every year on July 1st in the Narazu area of Kotake town. Originally began in the year 1752, this dance continued for 8 years to celebrate a good harvest and was called Aki no Okunchi. Early in the morning on July 1st, a spectacle including dancing along with music from taiko drums and flutes played by families in the town follow a male and female lion from Narazu Shrine. The goal is the local public hall where the two lions become four. This is quiet a sight to see!
