Yoshii Gion Festival

吉井祇園祭

Susanoo Shrine is usually known as “Gion-sama”. Since a big fire in 1763, the shrine has enshrined “Goshintai”, an object of worship believed to contain the spirit of a deity, which are once located in various places in the town. Since Susanoo Shrine is at “Ki-mon”, unlucky direction, of the town, it is said that it has protected the town. In July, 10-meter-high Yamakasa floats are displayed at three spots of the town, and many people enjoy summer night with the music of Gion-bayashi.
