Maizuru Park

舞鶴公園

A treasure trove of history and nature on the site of Fukuoka Castle, a comprehensive park with sports facilities

This park is rich in flowers and greenery and is centered on the site of the main citadel of Fukuoka Castle, which was built by Nagamasa Kuroda, a lord of 520,000 koku in Chikuzen. Various sports facilities such as an athletic field and a ball field are located in the park, and Ohori Park and the Fukuoka City Art Museum are also adjacent to the park.
About a 15-minute walk from the center of Fukuoka City, the park has vast green areas, cultural assets and historical sites such as "Fukuoka Castle Museum" and "Korokan Ruins Exhibition Hall," and the lawn square is crowded with many people on holidays.
The park is also famous for its beautiful seasonal flowers. At Ninomaru Plum Garden, about 270 plum trees bloom their lovely flowers from late January to mid-February every year, and visitors can enjoy them while relaxing on benches covered with fur sen. Starting with the plum blossoms, the park is filled with cherry blossoms in March, buttons and azaleas in April, peonies and irises in May, and a variety of other seasonal flowers that soothe the hearts of visitors. The area is also rich in greenery, despite its location in the city center. It is also known as a bird-watching spot, where you can observe kingfishers, which are said to be the jewels of the waterside.
