There are plenty of fun events such as food stalls, a grand Bon Odori dance festival, a kids' corner, stage events, and a raffle. It is bustling with many people every year. A fireworks display is also scheduled.

Chikugo River Fireworks Festival (Kurume City)

※Due to the 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake, the festival has been canceled because the necessary support systems could not be fully established and priority is being given to assisting those affected by the disaster.
Originating in 1650 to celebrate the completion of Suitengu Shrine, the Chikugo River Fireworks Festival boasts a history of over 370 years. The fireworks spreading directly overhead are immensely impressive, making it one of the largest in scale in Western Japan.

Summer Festival "Yokassai" (Yame City)

"Yokassai" is a summer festival held in Hoshino Village every year in mid-August. It is a festival started by local youth with the desire to "see the smiling faces of everyone—residents, returning visitors, children, and grandparents. We want to liven up the village." The fireworks launched from the mountainous area are spectacular. In addition, fun stage events and food stalls are also available.

The "Furusato Kawara Summer & Bon Odori Festival" is a summer festival in Kawara Town held every year on August 15. Every year, beautiful large fireworks dye the night sky at the grand finale.

Nakagawa Citizens' Festival (Nakagawa City)

Mizuta Tenmangu Shrine Sentomyo Fireworks Festival (Chikugo City)

A midsummer night fire festival said to have a history of about 700 years. People pray for bountiful harvests and family safety using 1,000 lanterns—made by pouring rapeseed oil into scallop shells and inserting wicks—to form shapes such as tower gates, torii gates, the rising sun, and sailing ships. Fireworks will also be launched starting at 20:00.

Miyajidake Shrine Tanabata Festival (Fukutsu City)

The shrine grounds are decorated with colorful Tanabata decorations, such as paper strips with written wishes attached to large bamboo branches, and the "large Tanabata streamers" often seen in the Kanto region. Enjoy a moment of cool refreshment alongside the soothing sounds played by approximately 10,000 wind chimes suspended along the approach path behind the main hall.

Oshima Tanabata Month (Munakata City)

Various places across the island are decorated with Tanabata streamers and ornaments, and you can freely write your wishes on paper strips (tanzaku) placed in restaurants and accommodation facilities. These paper strips will be dedicated during the Tanabata Festival at Munakata Taisha Nakatsu-miya Shrine on Friday, August 7.

Homangu Kamado Shrine Tanabata Festival~ (Dazaifu City)

With the theme of "Sparkle of the Constellations," bamboo lights and light displays spreading across the shrine grounds create a magical space as if countless stars have descended upon the earth. The sound of wind chimes swaying in the night breeze harmonizes with the soft light, enveloping visitors in tranquility and peace.

Summer Festival at Tanabata Shrine (Ogori City)

This is a festival at Himekoso Shrine (commonly known as Tanabata Shrine) in Ogori City, which is known as the "Home of Tanabata." The shrine is bustling with many visitors, decorated with Tanabata ornaments, festival lanterns, and colorful paper strips (tanzaku) sent from all over the country adorn the bamboo branches. The dedicated paper strips will be burned in a sacred ritual on August 8.

Nagaihama Park Marine Activities (Yukuhashi City)

Experience a total of six types of marine activities (flyboarding, wakeboarding, banana boat, ski biscuit, jet ski touring, and SUP), starting with flyboarding, which can only be experienced here within Fukuoka Prefecture. With its shallow waters, Nagaihama is a welcoming beach where even first-timers can enjoy themselves with peace of mind.

Uminonakamichi Sunshine Pools (Fukuoka City)

Fukuoka Summer Vacation Challenge Festa 2026 (Fukuoka City)

A hands-on program held at the Fukuoka Prefectural Government Office, mainly aimed at elementary school students. In addition to more than 30 hands-on activities, there will be panel exhibitions to learn about Fukuoka Prefecture and the distribution of summer vacation independent research notebooks. Prefectural departments and many Future Children Challenge Support Businesses are involved, and various events will also be held in the lobby.

Summer Vacation Children's Handcraft Experience (Fukuoka City)

A hands-on event mainly aimed at elementary school students as participants. Around 35 hands-on booths from across the prefecture will exhibit for one day only. In the free corner, you can enjoy origami airplanes, three-wheeled handcycles, and more.

SHIKISITE World Beetle & Stag Beetle Exhibition 2026 (Yukuhashi City)

The annually popular summer event "Shikisite World Beetle & Stag Beetle Exhibition." Rare rhinoceros beetles and stag beetles from all over the world gather in large numbers, starting with the Hercules beetle, a favorite among children! Not only can you closely observe insects usually only seen in picture books, but the event is also packed with hands-on corners where you can actually interact with live insects, as well as exhibits where you can enjoy learning about their ecology.

Uminonakamichi Seaside Park Rhinoceros Beetle House (Fukuoka City)

A "Rhinoceros Beetle House" appears near the main gate of "Animal Forest"! This is an event where you can actually touch and enjoy about 100 Japanese rhinoceros beetles and stag beetles. Observe rhinoceros beetles and stag beetles up close and make wonderful summer vacation memories!

Fukuoka Great Insect & Great Mineral Exhibition (Fukuoka City)

Carefully selected, beautiful and rare specimens are displayed from the Kyushu University Museum's collection of over 4 million insect specimens—the largest in Japan. Cutting-edge insect research is also introduced. The event is packed with activities, including the "Children's Insect Consultation Office" led by insect experts and fossil excavation experiences.

World's Beetles & Stag Beetles Gathering!! (Kitakyushu City)

A must-see event for insect fans where you can see, touch, and learn. You can observe approximately 70 species of rhinoceros beetles, stag beetles, and other insects from around the world up close. Staff members knowledgeable about insect breeding are stationed on-site, ready to kindly answer questions regarding breeding methods, tips for raising them, and any inquiries about insects.
