Sumiyoshi Shrine – Setsubun Festival (Bean-Throwing Ceremony)

【住吉神社】節分祭(豆まき)

At this festival, a Hoso-shi, a demon-shaped figure with four golden eyes and a shield and spear, performs a Tsuina ritual to drive away evil spirits and invite good fortune using the “Peach Bow” and “Reed Arrows”, which are said to have protective powers against disease.

After the ritual, a bean-throwing ceremony is held at the Kaguraden Hall.
