Tocho-ji Temple – Setsubun Festival
【東長寺】節分祭
The Setsubun Festival at Tocho-ji Temple has been held since the Muromachi period and attracts large crowds every year.
On a special stage, a bean-throwing ceremony called “Shofuku Mamemaki” is performed together with the Seven Lucky Gods, who are widely worshipped as deities of “instant elimination of seven disasters” and “instant granting of seven blessings.”
During the festival, the temple also opens for public viewing the Senju Kannon statue, designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Japan, and the Rokkakudo Hall, a Fukuoka City Cultural Property.
