Meikaen (peach picking)

明果園(桃狩り)

Experience harvesting fresh and fragrant peaches in the fruit kingdom of Ukiha!

Ukiha City is located between the Mino Mountain Range and the Chikugo River in southern Fukuoka Prefecture. Blessed with a rich natural environment, the city is known as a “fruit kingdom” for its year-round fruit cultivation.
Among the many varieties of fruit available, peaches are the vastest with a whopping 37 varieties! The harvest time for each variety is short, changing every week starting in mid-June and ending in August. Meikaen is a long-established orchard, and the only peach orchard in Ukiha City where visitors can pick peaches. For more than 40 years, the orchard has been using reduced pesticides and organic fertilizers in order to “let children enjoy peach picking with peace of mind." Because no chemical fertilizers are used, the peaches are so luxurious that you can bite them whole, skin and all! You can enjoy all the sweet and juicy juice. Visitors can experience picking ripe peaches with their own hands from mid to late July. During this period, many tourists visit the orchard to enjoy the taste of the season.
There are also direct sales shops and cafes where you can taste sweets made from peaches scattered throughout the city, so a visit to these places is also recommended.
