Mitsui Temple Wind Bell Tunnel

三井寺の風鈴トンネル

Wind bell temple with unique Jizo and 10,000 wind bells welcoming you.

Byodo-ji Temple of the Omuroha sect of Shingon Buddhism, also known locally as "Wind Bell Temple," is also known as "Mitsui Temple. Every year from late May to September, a tunnel of wind chimes, a summer tradition, is unveiled in the garden next to the main hall. The tunnel is about 2.5 meters wide and 50 meters long, and approximately 10,000 wind chimes tinkle in the tunnel, delighting the eyes and ears of visitors. Visitors can also purchase wind chimes and write their wishes on strips of paper to hang them.

In addition to the wind chimes, Jizo statues in unique poses are also a highlight. Gut-posing Jizo, cutting-edge Jizo, smiling Jizo, and father-and-child Jizo will heal you. There is also the unique Hachihon Jizo, the eight-person Jizo, and the eight-person Senju Kannon Bodhisattva, so please take your time to stroll around the temple grounds.
