Mt. Hiko’s Hikosan Himeshara

英彦山のヒコサンヒメシャラ

Hikosan himeshara’s name comes from ”Mt. Hiko” where it was discovered. Five petal edges feature a slightly pink color. The white, five petal flower blooms in summer and is fresh and beautiful. The flowers are smaller than a summer camellia. Summer camellia is also called ”shara no ki,” so because they are smaller than that, it is ”hime (princess)” ”shara.” Another name is ”konatsu tsubaki” (small summer camellia) and the bud is just like a ”temari” traditional Japanese ball.
