【Hakata Onsen】Ganso Motoyu

元祖 元湯

Founded in 1969, Hakata Onsen Ganso Motoyu stands quietly in a peaceful residential neighborhood in Yokote, Minami-ku, Fukuoka City.
Step inside and you’ll feel as though time has stopped, surrounded by a nostalgic Showa-era atmosphere.
After paying at reception, head to the changing room.
Each of the men’s and women’s bathing areas has a single, modest-sized bath.
The source temperature is 48°C.
Because the onsen water flows directly from the source without added water or heating, first-time visitors may be surprised by the heat.
Be sure to rinse thoroughly before entering.
After bathing, the warmth lingers pleasantly, leaving your skin soft and moisturized.
Its rare combination of high temperature and excellent spring quality has earned it many devoted repeat visitors.
Drinking the onsen water is also possible.
If you bring your own container, you can take some home—up to two plastic bottles for free.
Some fans even use it in cooking, making this a true hidden gem.
