Tagawa History and Coal Museum
産業遺産めぐり 田川市石炭・歴史博物館
The Tagawa History and Coal Museum is a place to learn local history. In 1983 (Showa 58), the museum was opened at the site of the old Mitsui Tagawa Mine Ita pit. The origin of coal, mining and transportation methods, and coal miners’ life are explained with models and examples of tools used by the miners. Paintings and essays born of coal miners’ life stories, and archeological relics are also on display. There is the only restored coal house in Japan as well.
