Dainingyo and Daichochine (Big Doll and Lantern)

大人形と大提灯(八坂神社)

Dainingyo (Big Doll) ritual is held on July 24 and 25 and Daichochin (Big Lantern) ritual on July 21 every year. A big lantern, 2.5meters high and 1meter in diameter, is made for this festival being moved around the city. Fish scales, feathers of insects and tree skins are used to represent kacho-fugetsu (beauties of nature) and sceneries on the lantern. It takes more than 50 days to make it.Two big dolls are displayed and visitors go under dolls’ opening legs praying for perfect health. Why not enjoy this beautiful lantern parading though the town ?
