Chikugo river vertical lift bridge

Due to a malfunction of the central movable span, lifting operations are currently suspended. Visitors can access the middle of the bridge, but crossing to the opposite side is not possible. (As of March 18, 2026)

The bridge used to be a railroad bridge of the discontinued JR Saga line. The center of the bridge moves upward so that ships can pass under the bridge. After the discontinuation of the JR line, the bridge was designated as National Important Cultural Property and became part of a walking trail. You can visit and enjoy the impressive scenery of the moving bridge up close. The beautiful evening scenery is a must see. You can also enjoy the illuminated bridge at night.
