Okawa is the biggest furniture production area in Japan. The products of this region are made with a mixture of tradition and technique to create functional and well-designed furniture that overflows with a modern feeling, including paulownia wood cabinets, transom carvings, and ’kumiko’ wooden patterns made using dainty and elegant techniques. There are over 1,000 companies in Okawa dedicated to woodworking, including companies specializing in furniture, fittings, woodworking tools, paints, and furniture distribution/sales. *Okawa has many cultural properties in ”Kawa to Okawa” and ”Kawa to Bunkazai.” There is an ”Okawa Woodworking Festival” held from the first Friday in October to Sunday.
