Doudan Tsutsuji (Enkianthus perulatus) at Nomiyama Kannon-ji Temple

呑山観音寺のドウダンツツジ

Nomiya Kannon Temple, located in Sasaguri Town, Fukuoka Prefecture, is known for its beautiful natural scenery throughout the year. Among its seasonal highlights, the fiery red Enkianthus (dodan-tsutsuji) in autumn is particularly breathtaking. When the shrubs lining the approach to the main hall and those planted throughout the grounds turn red all at once, the entire temple is enveloped in crimson, creating an atmosphere as if you’ve stepped into another world. The orderly rows of round-shaped shrubs and their vivid, flame-like red color captivate every visitor. The hues become especially rich during early morning and sunset, making it an ideal time for photography.

Another charm of Nomiya Kannon Temple is its serene atmosphere, nurtured over many years as a sacred site. The striking autumn colors harmonize with the tranquil surroundings, offering a moment of clarity and peace to all who visit.
