Hanashobu Matsuri (Iris Festival) in Toyotsu Athletic Park

みやこ町花しょうぶまつり

The Hanashobu Matsuri (Iris Festival) takes place on the second Saturday and Sunday in June at Toyotsu Athletic Park, which bustles with visitors both young and old taking in the sight of about 100 thousands irises in proud bloom every year.
Besides the numerous open-air stalls lining the park, visitors can also enjoy events like the Fun-Walk as well as flower bulb division, open air tea ceremonies, and performances of the koto (Japanese harp). The contrast between the roughly 70 varieties of iris that spring up around the edges of the pond(s) and the hydrangea that seem to envelop them throughout the park is beautiful, never failing to capture visitors!
