A train that runs through shrine grounds
境内を電車が走る
Sakiyama Hachiman Shrine is located about 500 meters away in the Tagawa direction from Sakiyama Station .
At this shrine, a train runs through the shrine road between the first and second torii, something that is extremely rare in Japan. Also, the head-standing komainu statues and ceiling images are worth seeing.
At the second torii gate, upside-down guardian dogs welcome visitors. The shrine was originally enshrined as the sacred site of Empress Jingu, and was moved to its present location by the Nakao clan, lords of the Muromachi period (1336-1573). Since then, the shrine has been carefully protected as the local guardian deity.
Time period: All year long
