A special experience in the woodworking city of Okawa, Fukuoka

In this tour, visitors can experience the woodworking and food culture of Okawa, which has developed thanks to the Ariake Sea and Chikugo River, with a guide (English and Chinese are available). While admiring the symbolic Shokaibashi Bridge, visitors will experience the nature of the Ariake Sea and Chikugo River and the history of woodworking. Afterwards, visitors will stroll through the Kobo and Enokizu areas, the birthplace of Okawa woodworking, where the old townscape still remains. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn how to make an authentic Kumiko lampshade from a Kumiko craftsman, and enjoy the profound charm of woodworking and Kumiko. At the end of the tour, you will enjoy a dinner filled with the bounty of Okawa and the Ariake Sea. The dinner will be served in a warehouse on the grounds of the "Former Yoshihara Family Residence," a National Important Cultural Property in the Kobo and Enokizu area. Enjoy the tastes of Okawa, where you can find ingredients from the sea, river, and land, in a fantastic space surrounded by Kumiko folding screens and illuminated by lights.
