Kama Kamameshi

嘉麻の釜めし

As part of the Heisei 23 Kama Fureai Festival, as a charity event for the Tohoku Earthquake, Tourism & Culture Ambassador Osugi and Rabuko Ohara came up with a plan to sell kamameshi (rice, meat, and vegetables cooked in an iron pot); the 1,000 meals made were sold out in two days.

In order to determine whether or not to commercialize this popular dish, an investigatory committee full of local volunteers, popularly known as Kamadasu, was created which gave out sample kamameshi over the course of 10 months.

At long last it was decided to commercialize the product, now called Original Kama Kamameshi, which went on sale at the Kama City Festa (Daimaru Fukuoka Tenjin Store Elgala Passage Plaza) and the Usui roadside station on 10 October 7th, 24.

In addition to great burdock, carrots, gingko nuts, and oyster mushrooms, ingredients include plenty of Kama City’s own Kaho Beef, flavored with sukiyaki sauce, and a subtle seasoning of apple juice.
