About an hour’s drive from Fukuoka City, Mercure Fukuoka Munakata Resort & Spa reopened in 2024 following a rebranding.
The resort is embraced by the Genkai Sea and Satsuki Matsubara within the Genkai Quasi-National Park.
Its own alkaline simple onsen, Genkai Satsuki Onsen, is drawn from 1,000 meters underground.
Rock-lined open-air baths and saunas allow guests to enjoy the sea breeze, while the Onsen Lounge, inspired by the sunset over the Genkai Sea, offers a relaxing space after bathing.
Spacious guest rooms of 35 square meters or more provide sweeping views of the ever-changing seascape.
Dining is another highlight, with refined dishes made using an abundance of Munakata-sourced ingredients.
