若宮八幡宮放生会・大名行列

A Hojyoe festival is a religious festival where participates release captive animals. This traditional festival is one of Fukuoka biggest and has continued from the Edo Period. On the first day of the festival, the town is wrapped in a wonderful atmosphere as if it has time-travelled to the Edo Period. Here one can see 500 people wearing samurai costumes and parading through town. The climax of this festival occurs on the last day! Spectators can watch groups of local men wearing unique costumes and carrying 4m high floats! This festival is held once every 2 year. The next one will occur in 2012.
