The Frozen Shioji no Taki Falls on Mt. Hiko - A Spectacular Winter Sight!
The frozen Shioji no Taki Falls are a striking winter view that can be admired on Mt. Hiko (1,199 m) in the town of Soeda.
Here, at an altitude of 980 meters, an "icefall" appears in midwinter, when the temperature is particularly low. The water flowing over the rocks freezes and overlaps, turning into icicles. This 30-meter-tall and 10-meter-wide ice artwork is sure to amaze!
If your timing is right, you will be able to witness the dynamic frozen waterfall together with snow-covered trees, forming picture-perfect scenery.
The mountain trail up to Shioji no Taki Falls is not suitable for beginners and is recommended for those with experience climbing snowy mountains. Make sure you have suitable equipment, plan according to the weather, and climb with other people.
