Tatsumigama Pottery

辰巳窯

Tatsumigama is the only pottery which sticks to wood-fired kilns in Koishiwara. The burning degree of the kiln is about 1,250 degrees Celsius. The high-temperature flame creates color shades which even the potters can’t predict. “I make each of my works distinctive in the burning process”, says the potter, Mr. Takehisa Naganuma. He has grown up watching his father, the founder of the pottery, Mr. Makoto dedicate to throw potteries. Mr. Takehisa’s life philosophy like “I like simple.” and “I want to stay natural.” can be seen on his works. For a quarter of a century since he started pottery throwing, he has kept producing potteries taking advantage of clay and flame.
