The Onga River Pumping Station

遠賀川水源地ポンプ室

This is one of the Sites of Japan’s Meiji Industrial Revolution selected for the inscription of 2015 UNESCO World Heritage List.
Located about 10 kilometers from the mouth of the Onga River, this water pumping station is still in operation, actively supplying water to the Yawata Steel Works. It was constructed in 1910 to fulfill water insufficiency for the first expansion of the Yawata Steel Works undergoing at that time. Although the post has shifted its main source of power from steam to electric, it is still fully engaged in supplying the much needed water supply to their nearby steel maker.

Car Park	No parking available near the Pumping Station. Please use the following parking locations. Nakama Civic Stadium parking (free), 25 min-walk. Nakama Regional Koryu Center parking (free), 25 min-walk. Nakama City Hall parking (free), 15 min-walk.
Access	25 min-walk/7 min by cab from JR Chikuzen-Habu Station. 10 min-walk from Chikuho Electric Railroad Kibogaokakoko-Mae Station. 20 min-walk from Nishitetsu Highway Bus Nakama 3-chome bus stop.
