In Meiji era, the coal mines here used to supply half the amount of coal for Japan. The riverboats named Kawahirata went up and down the Onga river to transporting coals from Chikuho Coal Mine to Wakamatsu Port. With it’s natural scenery, it is now a popular place to relax and refresh.
