Forest Therapy (Kurogimachi Location)

400m above sea level and nine lakes on the premises, Forest Therapy at Kurogimachi encompasses the true definition of tranquility. The coniferous forest is mainly made up of Japanese cedar and hinoki cypress. But, what makes this such a therapeutic location is the presence of other varieties of trees. You’ll find tons of broad leaves such as Japanese camellia, live oak, sawtooth oak, bao li, and acer which are very common in a temperate climate.
Also opened here in 1999 is an onsen spa facility to help visitors maximize their nourishment and rejuvenation process while out here in the woods.

The onsen comes with kiosks and food vendors offering Yame green tea and other mountain produce at the visitor-favorite Kurogi Furusato Market, situated at the lobby of the spa.
Beautiful sceneries unfold right in front of your eyes at Forest Therapy at Kurogimachi as the leaves turn colors during both spring and fall. Cherry blossoms, rose trees, rhododendrons, and hydrangea macrophyllas paint the spring and summer forests multicolored. Enkianthus perulatus and acers turn them into vivid red and yellow for autumn foliage.

Access	● Approx. 22km from Kyushu Expressway Yame Interchange. Exit Yame Interchange, left to Japan National Route 442 on three-forked junction, right on the next intersection toward Yame Kurogi. Follow all the way into the tunnel to Kurogimachi, right at the Chugakko-mae intersection just after Kurogi-Ofuji. Stay on Prefectural Route 802 for about 6km uphill through the mountains, and you’ll get to Green Pia Yame. ● Approx. 22km from Kyushu Expressway Hirokawa Interchange. Exit Hirowaka Interchange, left on three-forked junction, right on the next intersection toward Yame/Kumamoto to Japan National Route 3. Follow all the way to Yame City, left to Japan National Road 442 at the Oshima intersection toward Yabe/Nakatsuemura. Follow all the way into the tunnel to Kurogimachi, right at the Chugakko-mae intersection just after Kurogi-Ofuji. Stay on Prefectural Route 802 for about 6km uphill through the mountains, and you’ll get to Green Pia Yame.
