Kitakyushu Municipal Museum of Art
北九州市立美術館
Since its opening in 1974, the museum has collected works focusing on artists from western Japan, modern and contemporary art, prints, and masterpieces from both East and West. It now houses approximately 6,800 works. It was the first museum in Japan to introduce a volunteer system, offering artwork explanations and educational programs for visitors. The Citizen’s Gallery on the first floor provides a space for local artists to exhibit their works. On the third floor, a dedicated exhibition area regularly holds small themed exhibitions showcasing a variety of prints, drawings, and other small-scale works.
