Yawata Works Former Head Office Observation Space

官営八幡製鐵所 旧本事務所眺望スペース

The Modern Industrial Heritage Sites in Kyushu and Yamaguchi were chosen for the UNESCO World Heritage List inscription on July 5th, 2015.
Yawata Works Former Head Office and its related facilities are not open to the public at this time due to the Yawata Steel Works owning the property and currently being in operation. Nevertheless, the observation space for the former head office was put in place on April 17th, 2015 to provide visitors a better glimpse at the building. The office was shut down in 1899.
Equipped with a dome in the center, it is a symmetrical brick building used to house the president’s office, the chief engineer’s office, the foreign worker consultant’s office, just to name a few. Following the expansion of the Yawata Steel Works in 1922, they relocated the upper management facility, leaving the property to be used for research and inspection projects thereafter.
Enjoy the view of the transcendent Sites of Japan’s industrial revolution from the newly opened Observation Space.
Photos are permitted on the premises for private use; however, larger devices such as binoculars and tripods are prohibited as a common courtesy to other visitors and guests. Please be advised.
(* Commemorative photo booth also available at the entrance to the Observation Space.)
