Futsukaichi Onsen (Hot Springs)
二日市温泉
A hot spring with a long history, even celebrated in the Manyoshu anthology
With a history of over 1,300 years, Futsukaichi Onsen is one of Japan’s oldest hot springs, mentioned in the Manyoshu, Japan’s oldest collection of poetry. The water is an alkaline simple hot spring (hypotonic alkaline high-temperature spring) with a gentle sulfur scent and is renowned for its beautifying effects on the skin. Conveniently located about 20 minutes by train from Hakata Station and 5 minutes from the Chikushino IC, the area features day-use bathhouses as well as long-established inns. Visitors can enjoy a relaxing soak while taking in the view of Mount Tenpai and exploring nearby attractions such as Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and historic sites.
