Maebaru Yamakasa, Summer Festival (Hibuse Jizo Festival, Wagoshi)

前原山笠・夏祭り(火伏地蔵祭・輪ごし)

Everyone in the local community looks forward to this summer festival!

The Maebaru Yamakasa (Hibuse Jizo and Oimatsu Shrine Summer Festival) is a festival in which nine administrative districts (Oimatsu-cho, Tsutsui-machi, Maebaru Nishi-machi, Kitahon-machi, Minamihon-machi, Kitashinchi, Maebaru Higashi-machi, Kamishin-machi and Kami-machi) each send out their own Yamakasa floats and spray water with vigor and shout “Oisa, Oisa” as they gallop around town in high spirits. Usually, it is dedicated to Hibuse Jizo on July 24 and to Oimatsu Shrine on July 25, and some towns even have children's Yamakasa to liven up the festival.

On the night of the Yamakasa festival, a summer festival is held and the Maebaru shopping street is lined with many stalls and crowded with people.
