Mojiko Retro Area

門司港レトロ地区

Located in Kitakyushu, Mojiko Retro is a charming port town area lined with historical buildings constructed between the Meiji and early Showa periods. Opened in 1889, Mojiko thrived as an international trading port. Today, the district has been revitalized into a popular sightseeing area that preserves its modern architectural heritage from those days.
Highlights include the iconic Mojiko Station, the Former Moji Mitsui Club, and the Blue Wing Moji, a drawbridge overlooking the Kanmon Strait. The blend of nostalgic architecture and the open seaside atmosphere creates a uniquely beautiful landscape. Cafés, boutiques, and restaurants offering local specialties such as baked curry can be found throughout the area, drawing visitors day and night.
In the evening, the buildings are illuminated, creating a romantic ambiance. Especially in winter, the Mojiko Retro Roman Illumination lights up the night, offering a magical experience that captures the spirit of Kitakyushu’s history, culture, and seaside charm.
