Shida Ume Festival (Tsunashiki Tenmangu Shrine)

しいだ梅祭り(綱敷天満宮)

Enjoy colorful blooming plum blossoms and events at a shrine related to Michizane Sugawara!

The Shida Ume Festival is held annually from mid-February to early March, when the plum blossoms loved by the god Tenjin are at their best. About 1,000 ume trees are planted in the precincts of Tsunashiki Tenmangu Shrine, which is associated with Sugawara no Michizane, and the pretty red and white flowers bloom brightly.
During the festival, the Tenjin Market where local specialties of Chikkami-cho are sold, Kagura (Shinto music and dance), lion dances, and Dondoyaki (burning of the gate) attract many people.

In 2022, the events and zenzai (sweetened red bean soup) distribution, which have been held every year, will be canceled to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus infection.
