Fukuoka Munakata Sake Brewery Izuhonten
福岡 宗像 酒蔵 伊豆本店
Grand Reopening — A “Showcase Brewery” to Experience with All Five Senses
Founded in 1717, this historic brewery has produced sake in 宗像市 for over 300 years. On January 7, 2026, it was reborn under the name Fukuoka Munakata Sake Brewery Izuhonten. Preserving its traditional thatched-roof buildings and brick chimney, the renovation introduced five experiential areas based on the concept of a “showcase brewery”: Direct Shop, Brewing Hall, Sake Brewery Bar, Sweets Area, and History Exhibition.
Visitors can watch brewing up close, enjoy sake pairings at the bar, purchase brands such as Munakata and Kame no O, explore displays of traditional brewing tools, and taste take-out treats like sake-lees “Munakata Hanasaka Manju” and Munakata gelato. The facility offers a full sensory experience of sake culture and local charm.
To mark its revival, a new label “Munakata” was launched, brewed with locally sourced rice and water. The flagship brand “Kame no O,” long supporting Izuhonten, is also continuing and is sold exclusively at the shop.
